If it's any consolation, I can never get the damned quote function to work, either.

I've had difficulty with it on my phone because of the way it pastes.

I have to paste the copied text that I wanted to quote. Then put the cursor at the front of the text and hit the quote button. Then go to the end of the text and hit the quote button again to do it properly.
